Gas Compliance Certificates in Windsor
Paperwork closes out every gas install, and the gas compliance certificate Windsor owners ask about is the document that matters. We are Windsor plumbers and licensed gasfitters, and every job is done by a licensed plumber under QBCC No: 15024607. This page covers what the certificate proves, where to find a lost copy, and who receives which version.

Compliance Certificate Versus Defect Notice
When a licensed gasfitter finishes installing or altering a gas system, the certificate they sign confirms the work complies with the gas rules. It belongs to that kind of job, and not every gas task produces one.
A defect notice works the other way. If a gasfitter finds a safety fault in a system being worked on, the rules require that gasfitter to hand the owner a written notice about it. Fixing the fault on the spot removes the need for a notice.

How to Find Your Gas Compliance Certificate
Check the paperwork from the gas job first, then contact the tradesperson who signed it off. That licence holder issued the certificate, so the record sits with them.
Lost paper is not the end of it. The state keeps every certificate in a searchable system, and the lookup runs by property address. Plate rules changed in July 2025, and most installs now skip the physical plate, so the digital record is the one that counts.

Who Gets Which Copy of the Certificate
The owner receives the original, issued via the state's online portal as soon as the installation is complete. If your gas arrives through a network, its operator also gets a copy, and the licence holder sends that copy within 5 days.
The full distribution looks like this:
The owner
the original, delivered via the portal on completion.
The network operator
a copy inside 5 days, where a network supplies the gas.
The state
the certificate stays on file in the searchable system for later lookup.

Gas Safety Between Certificates
A certificate covers a single event: the day the install or alteration was signed off. Queensland's gas safety advice for everything after that is simple: cookers, barbecues and similar appliances should be serviced at regular intervals by a licensed gasfitter, and used to the maker's instructions.
Between those visits, your part is visual only. Never hunt for a leak yourself; that is licensed work, and our gas leak repairs page lists the first steps when gas odour is present.
- Look for rust, wear or damage on pipework and appliance connections.
- Store combustible items clear of appliances.
- Bottle gas: strap cylinders down away from ignition and heat, with the valve closed when idle, even when empty.
Gas Safety in Rentals
From the apartments near Northey Street City Farm to the timber houses on the hill, this suburb rents heavily. At the last census just 16.4 per cent of dwellings were owned outright and 26.8 per cent carried a mortgage, so most gas systems here serve tenants. A gas leak and a gas supply failure both sit on the emergency repair list for Queensland rentals, alongside any essential appliance supplying hot water, cooking or heat.
The same tenancy law makes the owner or manager responsible for keeping the place in good repair throughout the tenancy. A tenant who smells gas reports it through the emergency contact in the tenancy agreement straight away.

Gas Certificate Questions Answered
Call (07) 3523 7121When do I get a gas compliance certificate in Windsor?
Straight after the licensed gas work wraps. The certificate is signed when a gas system installation or alteration is finished, and you receive it on completion of that work.
Does every gas job come with a certificate?
No, not every job does. The certificate belongs to an installation or an alteration, and a gasfitter who instead finds a safety fault hands you a defect notice. Repairs and servicing sit outside certification.
Who can issue a gas compliance certificate in Queensland?
A licensed gasfitter, and nobody else. Queensland reserves gas work for licence holders, and gas work includes examining and certifying a system along with its pipework and connections. Always ask for sight of the gas work licence first.
Who receives a copy of my gas compliance certificate?
You do, as the owner, through the state's online system when the installation has been finished and signed off. Where a network supplies your gas, that network's operator gets a duplicate within 5 days.
Are gas leaks emergency repairs for Windsor renters?
Yes, they are. Under Queensland's rental rules, gas leaks and gas supply failures count as emergency repairs, along with any essential appliance supplying hot water, cooking or heat, so the owner or manager arranges them urgently.
